My Coffee Shop Tools & Templates in Multiple Sizes!

Yikes - it's been a while since I've posted here y'all- but I've been sharing these when I go into schools & districts or when I'm speaking at conferences, and educators have shared that they've been helpful! Woohoo! So it's time to get these on the blog.

First - let's chat about the purpose of these tools. Depends on what you're doing with them, but a few quick ideas:

*Reinforce vocabulary with visual cues

*Provide stems/starters for students to support EXPRESSION of certain skills, academic language, or provide social cueing (through speaking, writing, or representing). Please note there's a highly effective way to design stems - check out this Tri Level Stem Tool here

*Provide a mini-version of your anchor charts as a more accessible tool for students

Because I like to be playful, I set these up with different names based on coffee. I don't even "speak" coffee, but I think I got the sizing right.

VENTI: Venti - the largest tool! You can use these Amazon Frames (I like these becuase they stand up nicely and are two-sided!). These are SUPER easy to prep, since it's just a full page. BONUS POINTS: You can just use the template and slice the edge for an Interactive Notebook entry. Woot Woot!

GRANDE: TableTop Tools with Starters & Stems with these Amazon Frames. These take a bit more time to "set up" with the rings, so I'd use these ones with a resource that you'd use consistently throughout a unit, or even throughout a trimester/semester. These can be stems/frames, vocabulary rings, cueing systems for group work, and a whole lot more. Please note the original tool in that blog post now comes in several languages! Woot woot!

TALL: Structured Visual/Vocabulary/Word/Sentence Bank with these Amazon mini Frames. These would be great for vocab words, synonym banks, structured visuals, or a sentence stem/frame mini bank.

PUP CUP: Yes/No, True/False, Real/Fake, etc Popsicle Stick Tool with these Amazon Badges. I like to use these popsicle stick hold-up tools to create an engaging, unifying experience with students for "This or That" structures. These are great when you can also provide a listening guide (here's a silly sample I use in trainings) for students to follow along with - as it provides a look for or a listen for during interpretive languaging activities (like reading a text, listening to a lecture, or viewing a video). You might also use these for vocabulary (with graphics, or words, or both), sequencing (with numbers or transition words), and lots more. Annnnd I really love that these are low-cost funsies because popsicle sticks are all over schools. Don't want to print stuff and put them in the badges? Don't. Put a blank post-it in there and have kids write their answers on it with a dry erase marker. Voila! *Also, don't use regular tape- use shipping tape - that stuff is much stronger.

FRAPPUCCINO:

This template (linked here!) is using one of those desk name tag place card things. I got these on Amazon. At the top I added in the unit's guiding questions in English/Spanish. Then I added in vocabulary with graphics from Flat Icon. I included stems/frames, support request questions, and in the final box I added in language functions & a spot for our key language use.

Yep, I'm a dork. Sorry not sorry. ;)  I'm not even like a hardcore coffee drinker. Oh well. Anyway, if you use these, let me know! I'd love to see these in action! Want to share a pic of how you use them and be featured here? Snap a pic and send to me at carlymspina@gmail.com. Let's keep growing our ideas!
