Spotify Wrapped: Student Edition

 As we start to wrap up the year 2022, I keep seeing graphics that my friends and colleagues post about their Spotify playlists. It shows different things like their favorite artists that they've listened to the most throughout the year, the total number of minutes spent listening to music, top genres, and top songs. I thought this would be a fun way for us to reflect with our students about all the incredible learning they've done so far this year.I hit the interwebs to find a few template generators, and here are a few great spaces I found!

Gridfiti templates (they have LOTS of different templates, including a few that are centered on the books you've read throughout the year- this could be cool).

Kapwing templates (very user-friendly!)

Check out this Kapwing one (as a festival headliner graphic)


Your district can even use the above graphic and capture your district's languages, like the example below!


How might you utilize these templates with students?

GOALS: This would be a neat way for students to capture goals that they had at the beginning of the school year. 

BOOKS: Perhaps they could capture how many books they've read, how many different genres they've explored, a favorite book, a favorite author, or more!

SONGS: We often learn a lot about each other when we spend time in each other's radios- so if they use Spotify or a similar service, this could be a really cool way to get to know our students and their musical interests. Please ensure that students feel comfortable sharing these, and don't make this an assignment to share their actual app-created graphics. Instead, have them capture their favorite songs, artists, and genres. 

SKILLS: Have students list out a few skills they've been working on in a particular content area, like math, science, or PE. Celebrate all that they've learned so far!

"I Need" Cards: Printables for Newcomers

At the beginning of the school year, I always encourage folks to prep a ton of these in anticipation of newcomer students that will arrive throughout the school year. Please note that this is one example of a template. You can open the templates, go to FILE and MAKE A COPY so that you can customize these to better fit your needs! This sample template I have ready is for English/Spanish newcomers . I Need Cards - please note that this template has the same tool but presented a few different ways. These are a tool that I reference in my proficiency snapshot tool for classoom & content teachers (a scaffold I'd recommend for level 1 students). As students are beginning their language journeys in English, they may just feel comfortable raising their hand and pointing. As many of us are starting to receive preliminary scores back from annual language assessments, I wanted to share a few templates that you may wish to use with students you serve!
